"Dattingindacagegotoutandit" One of the benefits of being a race of successful conquerors is the positive effect that excess wealth has on the the world of art. It is only after a society has accumulated a surplus of time and resources that it can afford to develop its art and culture. It is a rare and beautiful thing when the number of wealthy patrons who are willing to fanantualy back artistic endeavors exceeds the number of qualified artists.
Naturally that void of qualified artists is mostly filled by less qualified artists who are out to make a quick copper. But the void also breaths life into the world of "Alternative Art" - a catch all term that includes types of art that, at any other point in history, would not be considered "art". After all, would "Glim-Bolt Ink Blots" have ever been considered "art" 50 years ago? Or would it have been considered the product of Orcs with too much time on there hands and one too many chromosomes?
Last month, the "Gob'Onary Art Academy" opened its first annual "Bio Art Exhibition" to the public. The exhibit featured over 25 works of "Bio Art" including the living "sculpture" illustrated above - the title of which is "Dattingindacagegotoutandit" created by Gob'Borlaug and Tink Fount (Ridgeling). Below is the response I was given when I asked the exhibit's curator, Gob'Snoggi, how the sculpture got its name: |
