Dear S.I.E.C. -
Just fill out your time card to show the overtime hours and get a bigger pay check as your reward. If your boss asks you why you had to work overtime - tell him.

#17) Ask Da Orcs

Dear ADOs -
I want to ask you about getting revenge at work. I'm talking mostly about getting back at the jerks who are either habitually late, or constantly call off at the last minute leaving you stuck covering for them. i work in a group home for the elderly that is operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - so i'm pretty much screwed if a coworker calls in sick or is late. So how best should i go about getting revenge from the jerks i'm forced to work with?

Dear Stuck in Emeryville:

Firstly... If you want the behavior to stop, you need to confront the person who is doing it. If you are his superior - then act like it by being firm and direct. If you are his co-worker, then you will need to be a tad more tactful. Talk with him, in private, and explain that being late creates inconveniences for you. Be polite or he might get defensive.

Secondly... If being nice dose not work. Try talking to your boss.

Dear "Stuck in Emeryville" -
Revenge sounds like a bad idea to me. An inconsiderate coworker is something that most of us have had to endure at one time or another. If you MUST do something, then I'd suggest you write an anonymous letter to your boss.

2) Response from Prof. Pizpoploop

Dear "Stuck in Emeryville Ca.":
I know it is rather "un-orcy" of me to say - but revenge is rarely a good answer to a problem. Even when it is "sweet revenge" it doesn't seem to last. It also just creates more contention and really doesn't address the problem. I'd recommend having a frank and private discussion with the person who is being late. Try not to be pushy or mean. Don't say or do anything to the other person that you wouldn't want done to you. Check your own internal barometer to see how you'd want to have it handled if the tables were turned.
     Sincerely,
Prof. Pizpoploop
